Understanding credits
Credits meter your agent's chat replies. Each plan includes a monthly bucket, you earn bonus credits during setup, and you can top up with add-ons when you need more.
What a credit is
One live visitor turn (one message in, one reply out from a visitor on your published widget) consumes 1 to 50 credits depending on the model you picked. Tool calls (search_knowledge, lead_capture) on the same turn are bundled in. You are not charged twice.
The default model, GPT-4o Mini, costs 1 credit per turn, so on the default model 1 credit is roughly one message. Premium models cost more per turn, so the same bucket covers fewer turns.
Testing in the sandbox is free
Trying your own agent in the in-product sandbox does not consume any credits. Chat with it as much as you like while you set it up, tune its instructions, and check its replies. Your monthly bucket is reserved for live visitors on your published widget, so your free credits are still there when you go live.

A new workspace starts on Free with 100 credits so you can send your first messages right away. Buckets reset on the first day of your billing cycle. Unused monthly credits do not roll over.
Earn bonus credits during setup
As you set up your first agent you earn one-time bonus credits that stack on top of your monthly bucket. Completing the setup steps earns up to 100 bonus credits in total (each step pays out once per workspace), and publishing your agent live unlocks a further 500.

That is up to 600 bonus credits on top of the 100 you start with. These earned credits are preserved when you upgrade and survive each monthly reset, so they are never swept away.
Every time you earn a bonus a short confirmation appears telling you exactly what it was for, for example "Well done! You trained your AI agent." so it is always clear why your balance went up.
Top-ups (Extra Credits add-on)
Run low before the reset? Buy the Extra Credits add-on: $20 buys 1,000 credits. It applies to your current month and stacks with your plan bucket. Credits you purchase do not expire.
A top-up is cheaper than upgrading a tier if your spike is a one-off. For sustained higher traffic, upgrade the plan: Starter at $40 includes 2,000 credits, Advanced at $120 includes 8,000, Pro at $400 includes 30,000.
