Disclosure: Dante AI publishes this guide. Dante AI figures come from our own pricing page, checked on 31 October 2026. Other vendors' pricing pages could not be read from our editing session on 31 October 2026, so we quote no other company's prices and compare pricing structures instead.
AI customer service pricing is the sum of three costs: the AI that answers customers, the human seats or inbox behind it, and any usage charges such as per conversation or per resolution fees. The cheapest-looking plan is often not the cheapest at your volume, so compare a cost per conversation. On Dante AI, plans run from $0 to $400 a month with human handover included on Advanced ($120) and Pro ($400).

What do you pay for in AI customer service?
An AI customer service setup has more moving parts than a website chatbot, because a person still answers what the AI should not. Price each part:
| Cost component | What it covers | How it is usually billed | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI answers | The AI agent replying to customers from your content | Message credits, per conversation or per resolution | What counts as one unit, and what happens at the limit? |
| Human handover | Passing a conversation to a person with the history attached | Included on some plans, an add-on on others | Which plan includes it? |
| Team seats | Logins for the people who answer handed-over chats | Per seat, or a set number per plan | Is the AI billed on top of seats? |
| Channels | Website chat, email, messaging apps, phone | Included, per channel add-on, or per minute for voice | Is phone metered separately? |
| Setup and upkeep | Training on your content, testing, keeping answers current | Your hours, or an agency fee | Does the AI re-read your site automatically? |
How is AI customer service software priced?
- Seat plus AI fee: common in help desks. You pay per agent login, then a separate charge for each AI conversation or resolution. Costs rise with headcount and with AI usage.
- Per resolution: you pay when the AI closes a conversation without a person. It sounds fair, but the bill grows as the AI improves, so model your expected resolution rate.
- Per conversation: every conversation the AI joins is billed, resolved or not. Simple, and it tracks traffic spikes directly.
- Flat plan with credits: a monthly price with a pool of message credits. Predictable until you pass the pool, then you add credits or move up a tier.

What does AI customer service cost on Dante AI?
Dante AI uses flat monthly plans with a credit allowance. Each plan trains on your website, files and written answers with no code.
| Plan | Price a month | Credits a month | AI agents | Human handover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 | 1 | No |
| Starter | $40 | 2,000 | 1 | No |
| Advanced | $120 | 8,000 | 3 | Yes |
| Pro | $400 | 30,000 | 10 | Yes |
Heavier AI models use more than one credit per answer, so a plan gives fewer answers on those models. The default model uses 1 credit per answer. Extra credits are $20 a month per 1,000. Full details are on the Dante AI pricing page.
What does 1,500 chats a month cost? A worked example
Take a support team that receives 1,500 website chats a month, averaging three customer messages each. That is 4,500 AI answers a month. These volumes are assumptions for the example; use your own.
- On Dante AI Advanced with the default model (1 credit an answer): the 4,500 answers use 4,500 of the 8,000 included credits. The bill is $120 a month, which is $0.08 a chat ($120 / 1,500), and human handover is included for the chats a person should take.
- On a per resolution model: 1,500 x your expected resolution rate x the vendor's published price per resolution, plus seats if billed separately. At an assumed 50% resolution rate that is 750 billable resolutions.
- On a seat plus AI fee model: seats x the seat price, plus 1,500 x the per conversation AI fee.
Divide each monthly total by 1,500 and compare cost per chat. Then use the calculator below to set that cost against the overtime or outsourced cover it replaces.
What hidden costs should you budget for?
- Busy months: usage-based plans cost most exactly when you are busiest. Price your peak month, not your average.
- Content upkeep: wrong answers come from out-of-date pages. Budget an hour a week to read transcripts and fix the source.
- Handover cover: someone has to answer what the AI passes on. See AI chatbots with human handover for how that flow works.
- Add-ons: extra agents, extra credits or removing branding are often priced separately.
How do you compare AI customer service quotes?
- Count monthly conversations and the average customer messages in each.
- Turn each vendor's public pricing into a monthly total at that volume, including seats and handover.
- Repeat for your busiest month.
- Divide by conversations for a cost per conversation, then add setup for a first-year cost.
- Test the best fit on your own content before you sign anything annual.
